This is one of the oldest towns in Europe that hides remains from Thracian, Roman and medieval times. Eumolpia, Philippopolis, Pulpudeva, Trimontzium, Filibe - these were some of the ancient names of Plovdiv throughout its 6000 to 8000 years of existence. Apart from its rich historical background, one can find beautiful examples of Bulgarian National Revival style houses. The most romantic part of Plovdiv is the Old Town, where you can walk on the cobbled streets and climb to the top of the hill to find the Roman amphitheather that dates back to 2nd c. A.D.
